Investor Relations Lead

Manchester or London, UK Hybrid Full-time

Posted 21 Aug 2026

About the role

UrbanChain runs an energy operating system: a licensed supply platform that matches renewable generators directly to the businesses and communities consuming their power. We are a technology company building energy infrastructure — not a utility with software features bolted on.

As we close our Series B, we are hiring someone to build the dynamic reporting suite for new and existing investors, and to standardise and run the corporate communications calendar with targeted, well-timed announcements.

Reporting to the Head of Structured Finance, the Investor Relations Lead drives 360-degree communications across UrbanChain’s senior representatives — domestic and abroad — as well as existing and prospective investors.

There are two halves to the job: equity investor relations coverage, and event and relationship management. Both depend on knowing the numbers well enough to explain them without a script.

Position details: Senior professional, full-time, hybrid. Business unit: FinTech. Core office: Manchester or London.

Scope & responsibilities

The remit splits into two areas. The first is analytical and reporting-led; the second is relationship-led.

Equity investor relations

  • Results and trading materials — lead preparation of results materials, trading updates and strategic presentations
  • Articulate the value proposition — clearly articulate the company’s value proposition across the energy operating system, technology-enabled energy trading, renewable energy monetisation and digital infrastructure
  • Analyst coverage and consensus — work closely with current analysts on their valuation, and maintain consensus
  • Growth plans and unit profitability — communicate the development of growth plans coherently to an investor audience, including the underlying profitability and required capital utilisation for each channel, product and portfolio type
  • Corporate finance mandates — project management and valuation support on refinancing, joint venture partnerships and M&A
  • Funding models and stress testing — convey the ongoing maintenance and financial performance of various funding models, together with headroom analysis and downside stress scenarios
  • Automated reporting suite — build a reporting suite that coherently portrays descriptive and diagnostic insight (what is happening and why) with predictive analytics for what happens next
  • Fundraising, data rooms and models — orchestrate the fundraising programme, dataset and data room preparation, and vendor due diligence where applicable. Prepare ad hoc valuation models (DCF, DDM and others) plus economic models for current and prospective energy technology clients

Events & relationship management

  • Investor roadshows — lead planning and delivery of investor roadshows
  • Capital relationships — develop and maintain strong relationships with private equity investors, family offices and strategic capital partners, managing and triaging inbound interest
  • Tracking and CRM — maintain dashboard trackers and relationship management software covering all external contacts: individual, role, company, location, portfolio highlights, and a summary of the last dialogue or feedback
  • Global event calendar — own and prioritise the global event calendar for UrbanChain participation across the EnergyTech investor community, keeping the company informed of the agenda, external attendance, meeting memos and locations

What good looks like, by month

0–6 months — get fluent in the numbers

Full familiarity with UrbanChain’s forecasted trading performance, the energy market levers it alternates with, and how every department contributes to that performance.

  • Hold your own clear vision of what the company’s value proposition is
  • Know the overall marginal cost of capital of the portfolio
  • Track investor relationships and stay on top of the reporting suite to Partners, in alignment with their minimum information requirements
  • Take full responsibility for virtual data room management

6–12 months — automate the tracking, widen the network

Drive additional automation in the tracking of capital market transactions relevant to UrbanChain, and build familiarity with the pockets of capital looking to drive growth in our markets.

  • Further relationships through a now-routine global events calendar as new growth markets open up
  • Keep scenario and valuation modelling continually refreshed
  • Use industry comparables and a clear read on how we are competitively positioned

12–18 months — shape the strategic lens

Shaping your strategic lens, and managing how company strategy is positioned in the market and how it is received.

  • Identify new business models worth pursuing
  • Take the lead on M&A and joint venture mandates
  • In particular, isolated asset transactions, which will become more regular

18 months + — where it leads

Three routes open up from here, depending on which parts of the role you gravitate towards:

  • Vertical — Strategy, Corporate Development or Investor Relations
  • Senior Communications — if the events and presentation aspects are your preferred elements of the role
  • Operational excellence / Chief of Staff — given the amount of internal partnering and the link to performance management

What you’ll bring

  • Relationship management experience in renewable energy markets and structured capital markets
  • Event management and investor engagement programmes
  • Programme management — demonstrable ability to work within and lead cross-functional teams, and to develop trusted relationships with key leaders
  • Power or energy management assets — a clear ability to familiarise and articulate unit economics throughout the lifecycle, from renewable generation to procurement
  • Data analysis covering high-volume transactional patterns
  • Financial modelling and valuation — strong understanding of methodologies and investment analysis, with the ability to automate and forecast out three-tier financial statements at both consolidated and isolated ‘AssetCo’ level
  • Clear communication of complex technical and commercial concepts
  • AI, ERP tools, Tableau and Power BI — used to optimise, streamline and refine visual analytics and data connectivity
  • Commercial finance metrics — tangible experience tracking contribution margin, cost to serve per customer / MPAN / MWh, and cashflow-at-risk
  • Character fit with a culture built on data, accuracy, continuous improvement, free thinking and empowerment
  • A professional, credible demeanour, adaptable and comfortable operating in a dynamic growth environment

Also useful, not essential

  • Keen interest in fintech platforms and how they leverage commercial solutions through software as a service and other market architectures
  • Experience engaging a venture-type audience, as the company unlocks new growth opportunities through guarantee-backed early stage finance
  • Familiarity with the make-up of renewable baseload and peaking generation load in the geographies we operate in — currently the United Kingdom
  • Proven track record of origination — M&A targets, strategic partnerships or investments

Who you’ll work with

The role is a hub, not a spoke. Everything you publish externally has to reconcile to what these teams are seeing internally:

  • Financial Control
  • Commercial Finance
  • Client Operations
  • Portfolio Optimisation & Risk
  • Technology

How we work

This is a technology company building energy infrastructure, not a utility with software bolted on. We expect the reporting suite to be automated rather than hand-assembled, and we treat AI, automation and agentic workflows as production capabilities rather than experimental pilots. AI fluency is the base expectation here, not novel testing.

The offer

You will be at the heart of scaling UrbanChain’s next phase — helping us lead the market, drive exponential growth, and build a global brand.

  • Competitive base salary
  • Management incentive scheme participation
  • Hybrid working (Manchester or London)
  • Direct SLT and board exposure, working alongside a peer-caliber leadership team
  • A defined promotion path at 18 months across three routes
