A school wanted to make better use of the renewable energy generated from its on-site solar panels. Their goal was to connect their main building’s generation capacity to other school sites, allowing them to directly use their own clean energy rather than exporting it to the grid and buying it back at higher prices.

Without UrbanChain, the school was missing out on both income and the environmental benefits of consuming its own renewable power.

Outcome of Partnership

Private Market Creation – UrbanChain built a private energy market linking the school’s generation site with its additional buildings, enabling them to consume their own renewable energy and retain more value locally.

Long-Term Value – By using their solar generation internally instead of selling it back to the grid, the school increased its income by 16% compared with standard export rates.

Enabling Energy Independence – Excess energy produced during weekends and holidays was redirected to another site, maximising efficiency, sustainability, and self-sufficiency across the school’s portfolio.

Results

16% additional income from renewable generation compared with standard export rates.
