Metering charges apply where they're not included in your contract. If we arrange your metering and data services, we pass the cost of those services on to you at the rates below.
All charges are per MPAN, per month, and exclude VAT. Prices may be reviewed and updated each year, and don't cover extra services or meter provision from your service providers.

The energy industry is moving every meter to Market-wide Half-Hourly Settlement (MHHS) in stages. The charges you pay depend on whether your meter has migrated yet. You can find out more about MHHS here.

Have your own contract with a service provider?
If you have a direct contract with a metering or data service provider, they'll invoice you directly and we won't charge you for those services. Just send us a copy of your contract to hello@urbanchain.co.uk so we can manage your provider appointments correctly.
What the terms mean
How we arrange your services
- Supplier-led: we handle the service provider arrangements for you. You'll see the charges on your invoice from us.
- Nominated: tell us which provider you'd like to use. If they're suitable, we'll appoint them, pay them, and show the charges on your invoice.
- Direct: you have your own contract with your provider and pay them directly. We don't charge for this.
Meters that have migrated to MHHS
- Market segment: how your meter is categorised under MHHS: Smart, Advanced or Unmetered.
- Connection type: how your meter connects to the network: whole current (WC), low voltage (LV), high voltage (HV) or extra high voltage (EHV).
- Metering service: installs, maintains and looks after your meter.
- Data service: collects your meter readings, checks them and passes them on for billing and settlement.
Meters that haven't migrated yet
- Measurement class: the class your meter falls into, based on how much energy you use.
- MOP (meter operator): installs, maintains and looks after your meter.
- DC (data collector): collects and checks your meter readings, then passes them to the data aggregator.
- DA (data aggregator): combines your readings for billing and settlement, and reports them to suppliers and market operators.
