UrbanChain has partnered with Low Carbon Hub to connect community-owned renewable generation directly with local energy consumers through its award-winning renewable energy operating system.
The collaboration removes costly intermediaries from the supply chain, ensuring fair value for generators while giving consumers access to competitively priced, 100% renewable electricity.
Under a new two-year agreement, Low Carbon Hub also has the option to establish its own private energy market - empowering the organisation to supply clean, community-generated power directly to local businesses.
The partnership reinforces UrbanChain’s growing role in shaping the UK’s transition to local and private energy markets - a model that enables generators and consumers to trade directly, improving transparency, resilience, and value retention within local economies.
Sandford Hydro has an installed capacity of 485kW and the potential to power over 500 households each year, or most of Sandford.
As more regions seek to localise energy supply and strengthen net zero delivery, UrbanChain’s technology and marketplace infrastructure are increasingly at the centre of how those new energy systems are built.
In the short term, the partnership will focus on integrating Low Carbon Hub’s generation portfolio into UrbanChain’s renewable energy operating system, enabling transparent trading and stronger returns for local projects.
Longer term, both organisations aim to develop a fully independent private market that accelerates Oxfordshire’s transition to a localised, low-carbon energy system - enhancing community ownership, resilience and sustainability.
Low Carbon Hub’s renewable energy portfolio already includes 56 renewable installations across Oxfordshire, delivering a total installed capacity of 24.3 MW, supported by 72 kW of battery storage.
Together, these projects have saved 5,456 tonnes of CO2 in the last financial year, generated 24.19 GWh of green electricity, and funded 48 Whole House Plans, 98 Energy Assessments, and the publication of CAPZero - a major report on achieving net zero in the region.
Charlie Parry, Chief Growth Officer at UrbanChain, stated:
“This partnership with Low Carbon Hub perfectly captures what UrbanChain is all about - using technology to make renewable energy local, fair and directly connected to the people who produce and consume it. It reflects the growing importance of local and private energy markets, where communities and businesses can take control of their own clean power and keep more of the benefits within their region.”
Low Carbon Hub worked with Thames Travel to install its 44th renewable energy site with a solar PV array at their bus depot in Didcot.
Tyler Gingell, Senior Lead Originator, UrbanChain, noted:
“Low Carbon Hub is leading the way in showing how community energy can work hand in hand with innovative trading platforms like UrbanChain. Together, we’re proving that a cleaner, fairer, and more local energy future isn’t just possible - it’s already happening.”
Tim Jones, Renewables Portfolio Director, Low Carbon Hub, commented:
“At Low Carbon Hub, we’ve spent more than a decade building a strong portfolio of community energy projects, creating clean energy to the benefit of the local community. Partnering with UrbanChain allows us to take that vision even further by directly linking our renewable generation to local consumers. It’s an exciting next step toward a fairer, zero-carbon energy system for Oxfordshire.”
